Automatic Attendance Grading Examples
Attendance Example 1: Students lose points as they miss class
If a class meets once a week all semester long, there are approximately 15 class sessions.
Attendance policy outlined in the syllabus:
- Students are allowed 1 absence.
- Students start with 60 points and points are deducted as they miss class.
- 0 -1 missed classes: 60 points
- 2-5 missed classes: 40 points
- 6-10 missed classes: 20 points
- 11-15 missed classes: 0 points
Below shows an example of how the Attendance tool should be configured with grading rules.
- No rule needs to be entered for the Absent 0 through 1 times range because they will be awarded 60.0 points.
- Student is deducted -20.0 points for being Absent 2 through 5 times.
- Student is deducted -40.0 points for being Absent 6 through 10 times.
- Student is deducted -60.0 points for being Absent 11 through 15 times.

Attendance Example 2: Students earn points as they attend class

- Students start with 0 points and points are added as they attend class.
- 14-15 attended classes: 60 points
- 10-13 attended classes: 40 points
- 5-9 attended classes: 20 points
- 0-4 attended classes: 0 points
Below shows an example of how the Attendance tool should be configured with grading rules.
- Student receives 60.0 points for being Present 14 through 15 times.
- Student receives 40.0 points for being Present 10 through 13 times.
- Student receives 20.0 points for being Present 5 through 9 times.
- No rule needs to be entered for the Present 0 though 4 range because they will just receive 0.0 points.
