  1. LEAD - Classroom

  3. Now think of practices that you have seen in your setting and try to look at them through a new lens. This new lens should reflect the principles in the new DAP Position Statement. Still considering your own setting, look for 2 good examples of DAP and 2 examples that do not meet the DAP principles. Try to select one good example that is worthy of submission to the Excellence Showcase at the end of this training. Explain your findings on the DAP Audit Worksheet. You will not submit this worksheet but will use it to organize your rationale for where you decide to place your practices on the DAP Continuum. The DAP Audit Worksheet will ask you to answer the following questions for each of your 4 examples.
    1. How does (or doesn’t) the practice meet the needs of young children based on their chronological age?
    2. How does (or doesn’t) the practice reflect an understanding of the interests, strengths and needs of the individual children in the setting?
    3. How does (or doesn’t) the practice reflect and understanding of the family and social culture of the children?
  4. Check your Understanding– Now that you have chosen 2 good examples and 2 examples that do not meet DAP principles, it is time to double check your understanding of the revised DAP. In this part of the assignment you will be working with your online training team to build a DAP Continuum.. Click here to see the DAP Continuum so you can visualize the final product. You will use the “DAP Continuum Forum” listed under the “Discussion Forums” tab to share your examples with your team mates and give a rationale for the placement of your examples on the continuum. You will need to establish a team consensus that your rationale is justified before you can make your placement official on the continuum Remember to use the Rules of Engagement when interacting in the “Discussion Forum”.

Once you have reached a consensus, add your titles to the Continuum
